There are few vehicles out there that can match the legacy and longevity of the Ford Mustang. For decades, the Mustang has served as a shining example of sports cars, a fact that has recently been recognized.

Indeed, the Ford Mustang recently earned the title of the best-selling sports car of the last 50 years.

The Mustang originally joined the Ford family of vehicles back in 1964. 56 years later, it is still leading sales in the sports car segment.

Just last year, Ford managed to sell 102,090 Mustang units, making it the best-selling sports car in the world. This includes a 33 percent sales increase in Germany and Mustang sales nearly doubling in France.

Of course, the Mustang has certainly experienced some changes over the years. Most recently, Ford announced that they would be introducing a brand-new variant of the Mustang: the Ford Mustang E-Mach. This new all-electric, SUV Mustang model is once again redefining the legacy of the Mustang line.

“We’re proud of our growing Mustang stable and performance variants,” said Jim Farley, chief operating officer for Ford Motor Company. “We are honored to serve our owners, enthusiasts and fans for 56 years and counting.”
